I have noticed that we have used different names for our worship. Which is correct?
There are a number of appropriate terms for Holy Communion. The section of our Catechism that concerns the Holy Eucharist (it can be found in the back of your Book of Common Prayer, page 859, 3rd question), lists several options: Holy Eucharist, Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion, Divine Liturgy, the Mass, and the Great Offering.
How do we choose the hymns we sing on Sunday?
We consider the Season of the Church Year and the texts of scripture that are read on that day. We also consult the current Episcopal Musician’s Handbook, which suggests hymns that relate to the Lesson (the Hebrew Scriptures reading), the Epistle (the Christian Scriptures reading), the Gospel and the Collect of the Day (which is the prayer assigned to the day).
Why do we sing all the verses in our hymns?
A hymn tells a story. To cut out a verse would be like skipping a chapter in a novel. The Anglican tradition is to keep it as a whole.
