Rector

Revenend John G. Bancroft

The Reverend John G. Bancroft began his tenure as the second Rector of St. Josephs, McDonough on the last Sunday of Easter 2000.  Coming to us from Reading, Pennsylvania, this is John's third cure. He served in St. Mary's Reading for twelve years and Christ Church, Mexia, Texas for ten years. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he is a graduate of Texas A & M University, and then Virginia Theological Seminary following a stint in the army. John is married to Mary Strey Bancroft, a native of Wisconsin.

The family looks forward to building good friendships in our church and community and feel very blessed to have received the call to St. Joseph's

Deacon
Helen Thompson

Helen came to Henry County in 1987 and in subsequent years felt the call to the diaconate. She advised her rector, The Rev. Don Harrison, who suggested she begin by doing volunteer work in Henry County. Helen has volunteered at the Helping in His Name Ministries, Inc. (Food Pantry) and Samaritan’s Together of Henry County.  She later became a fund raiser for A Friends House before it was built.  She was a member of the Episcopal Charities Foundation for two years charged with the mission of visiting other outreach efforts needing support in the Diocese of Atlanta.  She was a lay member of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Atlanta for three years. During four of these years Helen was studying in Education for Ministry (EFM) and studied Spiritual Direction for two years taught by The Rev. Dr. John Westerhoff, Theologian. The past three years she has been meeting the requirements in the formation and discernment toward being ordained as a deacon in the Diocese of Atlanta. Helen was ordained on August 6, 2006 along with ten other disciples. Helen currently volunteers at the Henry Medical Center as a Chaplin and is the coordinator of the volunteers for the Sacred Journey Hospice.
